How It Started

The New England region has a rich history with box lacrosse. Boston is the former home of the Boston Blazers, who were a member of the National Lacrosse League, the premier destination for professional box lacrosse. Additionally, the Boston Rockhoppers and Rhode Island Kingfish were members of the short-lived NALL, a smaller professional league.

Outside of the professional leagues, the gold standard for summer lacrosse in the leagues associated with the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA). Several players from the Boston area were part of the Vermont Voyageurs, who played in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League through the 2016 season. In the Boston area, many of the region’s best players still play in the Boston Box Lacrosse League through the winter, as well as their summer league.

When the IBLA approached the New England Region for expansion, having a team in Boston was an obvious choice. The Nor’easters offer something different from other summer leagues: a true Senior lacrosse experience. A home floor, away games, weekday practices, and paid spectators. All the games also lead towards the one goal of winning a national championship.

Why the Nor’easters? When coming up with a team identity, we needed to be distinctly New England. The Nor’easter is a storm the region is known for, and characterized by not only their intensity but also their approach from the northeast. As the IBLA region in the uppermost corner of the country, it seemed only fitting to be the team that takes the rest of the league by storm.
